Use this page to store off individual settings used for specific materials. Be sure to say where the material was sourced from and try to fill in as much info as possible. Diameters are in millimeters (mm), rates are in millimeters per minute (mm/min). The "LW" power corresponds to the PWM power settings in LaserWeb.

Note to other Makerspaces and Makers - These values represent values for the heavily modded "K40" laser cutter at PaxSpace. If you are referencing this for use at home or another makerspace, note that your settings may be quite different than what you need. The main modification that will affect use of these tables by others is that our laser's power dial at "0%" corresponds to roughly 4mA. Likewise, "100%" corresponds to roughly 16mA.

Paper-Type Materials

The materials in this table should be things like paper, cardboard, sticker paper, card stock, etc. Please be sure to include the weight of the stock in the notes if known.

Sticker Paper Amazon Paul D Cut NA 25% 10% Kiss 1

Cut 750

Kiss cutting is just going through the sticker layer but not the under layer - Aligning the page w/ the LW software and our bed is the most difficult part

Plastics

These materials (at the moment) should only include acrylics. More materials may be added at a later date.

Material Source Person Operation Diameter Power Dial (%) LW Power (%) Passes Rate Notes
Thin Acrylic (OPTIX) Lowes Paul D Fill Path 0.2 25% 10% 1 1000 This material is cast which leaves a white opaque look when engraved...
Thin Acrylic (OPTIX) Lowes Paul D Cut 0.2 50% 25% 1 1000 Material can leave 'gassy' appearance when being cut. Recommend a masking material (plastic sheet or tape) to keep clean. Power could probably be lowered and still cut nicely

Woods

Wood materials include things like woods, wood veneers, MDF, plywoods, etc. Note that these values (especially engraving values) are guidelines. Every cut of wood will be different. Please make small test cuts/engravings before doing a large cut.
